April 2024- "Thine Be The Glory"

In honor of the upcoming Easter celebrations, this month’s tab is an arrangement of the Resurrection hymn entitled “Thine Be the Glory”. The lyrics were penned by the Swiss pastor, hymnist, and translator Edmond Budry in 1884. He wrote “A Toi la Gloire” after the death of his wife as a statement of the promise of victory over death through Jesus Christ. He paired it with the stirring and triumphant tune JUDAS MACCABAEUS which is part of an oratorio of the same name composed by George Frideric Handel in 1746. In 1923, an English pastor and hymnist named Richard Hoyle translated the original French lyrics into English and published it in the World Student Christian Federation’s hymn book. It was included in the official Methodist Hymnal in 1933 and soon spread to other denominational hymnals all around the world.

Here’s a link to a YouTube video of an instrumental version of the hymn being performed by Kylie, David and Rachel Lau (the Lau Trio)

Wishing you all a Blessed Easter!

In music and friendship,

—Tull
